The Iberian settlement of Cabezo de San Pedro in Oliete. The first phase of excavation of the inner moat shows some spectacular structures.
The archaeological excavation and consolidation of structures at the Iberian site of Cabezo de San Pedro in Oliete during 2022 have yielded splendid results that have allowed us to better understand the scope and importance of the defensive-military structures of this important settlement. The work under the direction of the team of the Museum of Teruel with the collaboration of the Cultural Park of the Martín River was carried out by Jaime Vicente, Beatríz Esquerra and Sara Azuara. The Provincial Council allocated 155,000 euros to the excavation of the inner moat in the first phase.
In the 2022 excavation campaign in the interior structures of the site, different institutions have participated as an example of inter-administrative collaboration: the Museum of Teruel (DPT), the Cultural Park of the Martín River (Heritage of the Government of Aragon), the Region of Andorra-Sierra de Arcos and the City Council of Oliete.
The origins of this settlement should be sought in the 5th century B.C. if the remains found in the necropolis associated with the site are anything to go by.
